Summer is an important time for teen workers. Some young people move into full-time employment after finishing their high school education. Other teens want to find temporary work for the season to build a resume and earn money. CareerForce has resources for teens looking for work – whether it be part-time seasonal work or full-time permanent work.

Teen job seekers are facing a tougher hiring environment than a year ago. The Minnesota teen (ages 16-19) unemployment rate rose from 6.6% in January 2025 to 13.1% in January 2026. At the same time, the teen labor force participation rate went down from 60% to 49.8% over the year. January 2026 employment data is the latest data available at this time.
