Informational interviews
Informational interviews are a great way to find your future opportunity. Here are a few ways to get started:
- Follow up with someone you met briefly at an event and ask for a chance to meet again to find out more about his or her organization
- Leverage a friend or colleague who is a mutual connection and say that person recommended that you meet
- Request an informational interview with a leader in your field with whom you don’t have a connection
When you make the request for a meeting, clearly state that you’re looking for information about their organization or industry. Feel free to ask for recommendations for other people you can meet to help you with your career search. And don’t forget to send a personal thank you note as soon as possible.
