Salina served in the U.S. Navy as a Logistics Specialist, honing teamwork, organization, adaptability and problem-solving skills.
Ideal Credit Union was looking for employment candidates with those skills at the 2026 Veterans Career Fair – and they spoke with many impressive candidates, including Salina.
“At the time of the 2026 Veterans Career Fair, I had recently relocated to Minnesota and was actively looking for new career opportunities. It was an exciting time, but also a period of transition as I worked to establish myself in a new community,” said Salina who had recently retired from the U.S. Navy. “I felt the 2026 Veterans Career Fair was the perfect opportunity to meet employers, learn about different career paths and connect with other veterans who were navigating similar experiences. It was encouraging to be surrounded by people who understood the unique challenges and opportunities that come with transitioning from military service.”
Salina met with Jennifer Westby who was representing Ideal Credit Union’s Human Resources Team at the 2026 Veterans Career Fair. Ideal Credit Union was one of 100 veteran-friendly employers participating in the 20th annual fair. Like other participating employers, Ideal Credit Union recognizes the unique value that veterans bring to their organizations.
"The Veterans Career Fair is more than a recruiting event. It's an opportunity to recognize the value veterans bring to our workplaces and communities,” said Emily Kelly, Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Administration at Ideal Credit Union. “We were excited to connect with so many outstanding candidates and are especially pleased that one veteran has joined the Ideal Credit Union team.”
Salina was hired within weeks of the Veterans Career Fair and currently works as a Member Service Representative.
“My experience working at Ideal Credit Union has been wonderful. From day one, I felt welcomed, supported and genuinely valued,” explained Salina. “Having moved to Minnesota just last October, joining Ideal Credit Union has helped me build meaningful connections and a strong sense of belonging. It truly feels like I gained a second family that I can count on both professionally and personally.”
Working for an employer that values her military experience has helped Salina in her transition to civilian employment and working in a new part of the U.S.
“Having a veteran-friendly workplace is very important to me. I appreciate being recognized not only for my military service but also for who I am as an individual. It's meaningful to work in an environment where my service is respected and appreciated while also feeling valued for the unique skills, experiences and perspective I bring to the team. That sense of support and inclusion makes a big difference.”
Ideal Credit Union representatives say they likely will participate in future Veterans Career Fair hiring events – but the value of the events go deeper than just finding great new employees, says Jackie L. Day, Assistant Vice President of Payroll and Benefits.

Salina encourages fellow veterans to attend the next Veterans Career Fair, coming up in May 2027.
