Nathan served seven years on active duty before joining the Army Reserves. He served in the Reserves for 15 years as a Senior Operations Manager and retired in 2024. Eager to start a civilian career, Nathan was optimistic but soon became discouraged by the lack of responses to his applications.

“I was ready to get back into the workforce, excited to apply myself to new challenges,” Nathan shared. “After a long period of failed applications, I became more and more concerned that I would have to settle for something that wouldn’t allow me to live comfortably. I even considered working multiple jobs or going back to school.”

That's when Nathan turned to CareerForce in early December 2025. Rebecca Kaas, a Veterans Employment Representative with CareerForce Veterans Employment Services, stepped in with personalized support, teaching Nathan how to target his résumé and prepare for interviews. Within a week, Nathan began to see progress. “Rebecca showed me that my experience was significant and competitive, and helped me focus on fields where my skills were most relevant.”

In mid-December, Rebecca sent Nathan a posting for a Manufacturing Trainer at nVent in Anoka. He applied, and Rebecca forwarded his resume to Veterans Employment and Business Specialist Lee Okerstrom, who made a referral for Nathan with the employer. Nathan interviewed twice and, nine days after his second interview, received an offer. He started his new role on February 23, 2026, with a competitive salary and a full benefits package.

Nathan credits Rebecca for his success. “Her notes and resources for résumé building helped me craft a compelling resume. Her interview advice gave me confidence, which resonated with the hiring managers.”

Reflecting on his journey, Nathan says, “It feels great to land a role I’m excited about at a wage that’s plenty comfortable. Negotiating salary was empowering.”

His advice to fellow Veterans: “Seek advice and support. Use the best people and tools at your disposal – they are your force multiplier.”
