Gas Utility Construction and Service

Tuesday: 8:00 am - 3:00 pm
Wednesday: 8:00 am - 3:00 pm
Thursday: 8:00 am - 3:00 pm
Friday: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Train for entry-level careers in the energy industry with M State Energy Careers Academy in partnership with Xcel Energy. This 8-week noncredit program will cover topics such as: gas line locating, plastic pipe joining, meter and main installation, and safety processes. Upon completion, participants will be eligible to apply for gas helper positions. Training will take place onsite at Xcel's Hugo training facility. 

How to Participate

This program is offered at no cost to eligible participants through the Minnesota State Energy Center of Excellence.

Eligible participants meet the following criteria:

Women and/or BIPOC communities in the 7-county metro area. Ability to pass background check to enter Xcel facilities. Driver's license and own transportation to Hugo. High school diploma or GED.

Deadline for applying is Monday, February 19th.

Outcomes

Participants who complete the 8 weeks will receive a Certificate of Completion from M State's Workforce Development Solutions. 

Program Costs

This program is free to eligible participants who meet the following criteria:
