Independent Study is a great option for learners who prefer to work on their own. It is best for students who are self-motivated, organized, and committed to completing their goals on time.
The course must be finished within three months of the activation date. After finishing the course, the exam must be taken within one month. If a retake is needed, it must be completed within two months of the first exam.
Please note that course materials and exam vouchers have expiration dates. These expiration dates cannot be extended.

One to two exam vouchers are included where you will complete the exam through Pearson Vue onsite or virtual.

CompTIA Cloud+ proves you have the skills to work with cloud technology. It is a well-known certification for people who work with different cloud platforms.

With this certification, you will learn about cloud design, setup, daily operations, security, basic DevOps, and troubleshooting. Cloud+ helps you build hands-on skills so you can succeed in cloud jobs and grow your career in the fast-growing field of cloud computing.

Cloud Architecture (23%)

  • Cloud models: Learn the differences between public, private, hybrid, and multi-cloud. Understand how to choose the right model for a business.
  • Virtualization: Understand how virtualization works and why it is important in cloud systems.
  • Cloud networking: Set up tools like virtual private networks (VPNs) and virtual networks.
  • Containerization: Learn what containers are and how they are used in the cloud.
  • Orchestration: Manage and organize containers so they run smoothly.
  • Database basics: Understand how databases work and how they are used in the cloud.
  • Resource optimization: Improve performance while keeping costs low.
  • Billing management: Track and manage cloud costs.

Deployment (19%)

  • System requirements: Review what is needed before moving workloads to the cloud.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Use code to automate cloud setup.
  • Workload migrations: Plan and move systems to the cloud.
  • Resource provisioning: Set up and configure cloud resources correctly.

Operations (17%)

  • Lifecycle management: Manage cloud resources from setup to updates and scaling.
  • Backup and recovery: Protect data and plan for recovery if something goes wrong.
  • Monitoring: Watch system performance and fix issues quickly.

Security (19%)

  • Vulnerability management: Find and fix security weaknesses.
  • Identity and access management (IAM): Control who can access cloud resources.
  • Container security: Protect container-based apps.
  • Compliance standards: Follow standards like PCI DSS, SOC 2, and ISO 27001.
  • Security controls: Put tools and rules in place to protect cloud systems.

DevOps Fundamentals (10%)

  • Automation: Use tools to make cloud tasks faster and easier.
  • Source control: Track and manage code changes.
  • CI/CD pipelines: Automatically build, test, and deploy code.
  • System integration: Connect systems so they work well together.
  • DevOps tools: Use tools like Kubernetes, Ansible, and Jenkins.
  • Event-driven architecture: Build apps that respond to events in real time.

Troubleshooting (12%)

  • Deployment issues: Find and fix problems during setup.
  • Network connectivity: Solve cloud network connection problems.
  • Security incidents: Respond to issues like stolen passwords or access misuse.
  • Service disruptions: Fix problems with services like DNS, DHCP, and NTP.
  • Misconfigurations: Find and correct setup mistakes.

Course is offered as a virtual independent study or virtual independent study on demand (includes a CompTIA instructor). 

For our independent study and on-demand CompTIA courses, there is no set start date. These courses are offered all year long. Students can begin as soon as their enrollment is complete.

Course must be completed within three months of receiving materials and the exam is to be completed a month after completing the course. If an exam retake is needed, it must be taken within two months of the previous exam. Both the course materials and exam vouchers have expiration dates with no extensions.

Certification renewal every three years from date of the exam.

Must have a minimum CompTIA A+ certification to take this course.

Level: Advanced

After you complete our course and pass the exam, we offer career exploration and job support through our MTFS Gather Program.

Outcomes

Students will receive a certification in CompTIA Cloud+.

Students with CompTIA Network+ training and certification can pursue IT careers such as Systems Analyst, Cloud Architect, Systems Engineer, IT Manager. 

Program Costs

A combination of public and private grants through our employment service providers partners enables most MTFS students to enroll in training at no cost. Grant eligibility is determined by various criteria, including being an individual of color, lacking a high school diploma, experiencing unstable housing, being unemployed for 15 or more weeks within the past 52 weeks, or having a criminal record. Additional eligibility factors include having an income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), living with disabilities, or possessing limited skills proficiency. Other qualifying conditions include receiving unemployment benefits (UI), TANF/MFIP/DWP, SNAP, free or reduced lunch, or SSI/SSDI benefits. Students may also qualify if they have a basic skills deficiency, are qualified military spouses, or are affected by non-work-related injuries or illnesses.​

​For students currently enrolled in MN WIOA workforce development programs, Minnesota Tech for Success is licensed by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education, WIOA-approved, and can be found on the Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL). Speak with your employment counselor about co-enrolling to support this MTFS training.
