Minnesota Training Partnership in partnership with OPEIU Local 12 is preparing underserved groups for high-wage, high-demand Clinic Assistant, or medical office union jobs. Clinic Assistants are responsible for providing administrative and clinical support in a medical clinic. The primary duties of a Clinic Assistant include greeting patients, scheduling appointments, answering phones, and maintaining patient records. This is an entry-level position that requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as a willingness to work in a fast-paced environment. A successful Clinic Assistant should be able to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work well under pressure. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. These union jobs pay well, key components of the short-term program include culturally responsive services, and strong connections to our union and employer partners.

How to Participate

EligibilityRamsey County Resident. Be 18 years of age or older, and eligible to work in the U.S. - Have a high school diploma or GED - Individuals who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, individuals who are unemployed or underemployed are encouraged to apply. 

Services and training: Some services and training are available online, but the core program requires to attend classes in person at St Paul College. Access to reliable transportation is crucial. 

Free 12-week classroom training at St Paul College, plus additional training, and support from Minnesota Training Partnership. Gain the essential skills to help you obtain and entry level Clinic Assistance role. Work directly with your Program Navigator and connect with our employer partners for job placement. 

Program Commitments
After training completion there would be support provided until participants find full time employment. Including, resume development, job search strategies, interviewing skills and job leads will be provided. 

Outcomes

The primary outcome of our program is to provide a Clinic Assistance credential that will lead to an entry level job. This opportunity leads to a well-paying union job, allowing participants to continue to grow in the health care industry once they start working on it.

Program Costs

Free for eligible Ramsey County residents, the program is targeted to those who are BIPOC, and/or low-income.  Program includes FREE of cost short term training, designed for busy people, training at St Paul College, and a STIPEND that will pay you while you learn.
