Skill Training:

  • Carpenter (Wood Framing) Pre-Apprenticeship Training (July 20 – August 7, 2026)
  • Primary Location: Carpenters Training Institute (CTI) Twin Cities Campus - 740 Olive Street, St Paul, MN. 55130
  • Training includes hands-on instruction in construction math, carpentry basics, framing terminology, material staging, wall panel building, and industry safety

• Workplace expectations and union culture 
• Resume development and interview preparation
• Job search strategies and career navigation
• Financial literacy and job retention skills
• Preparation for Registered Apprenticeship

Minnesota Training Partnership’s Union Carpenter Training Program prepares adults to enter high-demand careers in the skilled trades. Union carpenters build and assemble the structures we live and work in, using measurement, layout, and construction skills to frame walls, floors, and building systems.

FREE, SHORT-TERM PROGRAM FOR PEOPLE WHO QUALIFY!

This short-term program provides hands-on training in construction and wood framing aligned with employer needs and prepares participants to apply for Registered Apprenticeship opportunities with the Carpenters Union. Participants also receive individualized career navigation and job placement support throughout the program and after completion.

Program Includes:
Free carpentry skills training - Work readiness and career planning - Hands-on training in framing, layout, and jobsite safety - Preparation for entry into the Carpenters Union Registered Apprenticeship - Direct connections to contractors that are hiring - Ongoing support from career counselors and navigators

How to Participate
Eligibility: 
Be 18 years of age or older and not enrolled in a K–12 school

Be a resident of Minnesota

Be authorized to work in the United States

Be actively seeking employment or career advancement (individuals not in the labor force are not eligible) 


Meet at least one of the program’s priority populations, including individuals who:

  * Are unemployed or underemployed

  * Are low-income (at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines)

  * Have justice system involvement

  * Are experiencing housing instability

  * Have a disability

  * Are part of communities disproportionately impacted by barriers to employment


Be able to meet basic academic readiness expectations, including:

  * High school diploma or equivalent (or ability to obtain prior to training, if applicable)

  * Sufficient reading and math skills to succeed in training (assessed during intake) 

 

* Complete:

  * A program application and eligibility screening

  * Required assessments and an Individual Employment Plan (IEP)

  * Verification of Social Security number and required eligibility documentation


Selection is based on eligibility, interest in construction careers, and readiness to successfully complete training and transition into employment.

Outcomes
