Information Technology (IT) Career Pathway

Information Technology career pathways is for students interested in learning more about careers in IT, working on computers and assisting others with computer problems. This pathway offers two entry points depending on skill and interested level. 

Tier 1: Is an entry level class, students will complete three NorthStar Digital Literacy certificates (Basic Computer, Using Email and Internet Basics). They will develop industry specific vocabulary, cover computer maintenance and troubleshooting, understand social media basics, digital privacy and digital citizenship. 

Tier 2: Students will complete the Google Information Technology Support Professional Certificate course, which includes, operating systems, networking, software, and troubleshooting/customer services.   They will understand the importance of network security and risk of viruses/malware. 

Tier 3: Is a preparation for CompTIA A+ Certification class. Student who have completed Tier 2 and have a reading level at NRS ABE 3 will be eligible for Tier 3. Students will demonstrate understanding of CompTIA A+ core concepts through practice exams on the Coursera platform. They will be able to explain Microsoft Windows security best practices. Students will have hands-on experience with field technicians.

Tier 2 is online through Google Meet, 9:30-11:30
Tier 3 is online, self-paced with Instructor support
How to Participate

To register please follow the link to the Hubbs Center website, https://hubbs.spps.org/register  Please indicate that you are interested in the IT classes on the registration form.

Once you register an intake staff will reach out with more information and to schedule a Reading and Math assessment. These assessments must be completed before starting the class. 

Outcomes

Tier 1: Three NorthStar Digital Literacy Certificates

Tier 2: Five NorthStar Digital LIteracy Certificates, Google Information Technology Support Professional Certificate through Coursera

Tier 2: Preparation for CompTIA+ Certificate through Coursera
