Neighbors, Inc.’s CNA Training Program prepares participants for entry-level employment in healthcare and provides the foundational skills needed to begin a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
The six-week program uses a hybrid format, combining approximately 40 hours of required in-person classroom and lab instruction at Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) with approximately 35 hours of online coursework.
Participants receive instruction in essential nursing assistant skills, patient care, communication, safety, infection control, and other foundational healthcare competencies.
Participants also build work-readiness and professional communication skills while receiving individualized career coaching and employer preparation. Support may include resume and interview preparation, job-search assistance, employer connections, and placement support.
Online or Virtual Information
The program includes both required in-person and online training. In-person classroom and lab sessions are held at Dakota County Technical College (DCTC), with additional coursework completed online. Participants must have access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet and should be prepared to participate in both in-person and online training activities.
How to Participate
Interested participants begin by connecting with the Neighbors, Inc. Financial Empowerment Center to complete an intake, eligibility screening, and career assessment. Eligible participants work with a Career and Financial Coach to develop an Individualized Employment Plan and determine readiness for CNA training.
Participants then complete the required CNA training and receive individualized career coaching, training navigation, job-search and interview preparation, employer connections, and placement support. Additional educational and career support may be provided as appropriate.
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the CNA Training Program, participants will have developed foundational nursing assistant, patient care, safety, communication, and work-readiness skills needed to pursue employment in healthcare settings.
Participants will be prepared to pursue CNA employment opportunities and, as applicable, complete the requirements necessary to pursue Minnesota nursing assistant certification. Participants also receive individualized career coaching, job-search and interview preparation, and connections to healthcare employers to support entry into the healthcare field.
Program Costs
No cost to eligible participants. Basic eligibility requirements include being a Minnesota resident, age 18 or older, eligible to work in the United States, not enrolled in high school and eligible for Adult Basic Education services, and either being an individual of color or having income at or below 200% of the federal poverty guideline. Participants must also meet CNA training requirements, including English fluency, the ability to perform nursing assistant tasks, and access to a computer or laptop with reliable internet.
