Essential Computer Skills and Job Readiness

This training program is designed to support job seekers in building essential digital literacy skills and increasing their readiness for employment. Participants will be given a laptop through Minnesota Tech for Success to complete the Northstar Digital Literacy curriculum, gaining foundational computer skills and earning digital badges/certificates.  Some of the NorthStar Digital Literacy training modules include basic computer skills, internet basics, email, Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. In addition, they will participate in a guided Job Readiness class focused on practical tools, confidence-building, and workplace skills. All classes will be held onsite at Minnesota State College Southeast in Winona, MN. 

Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30am - 12:30pm, with lab hours/makeup sessions held on Fridays from 9:30am - 12:30pm. 

The Job Readiness Class is on Friday, October 23rd from 9:30am-12:30pm.

No class on Wednesday, November 11th for the Veteran's Day holiday.

How to Participate

To qualify, you must:
1. Be age 18 or older.
2. Be eligible for ABE Services and not be enrolled in high school.
3. Be at or below 200% of federal poverty guidelines or be an individual of color.

Must be a Winona County resident. 

Outcomes

By the end of the training, participants will:

Earn two certifications:  Essential Computer Skills and Job Readiness

Build confidence navigating online applications, email communication and workplace technology

Strengthen soft skills that support employment retention
