Tory was working as a Nursing Assistant when she lost her job due to the closure of the nursing home where she was working in May 2021. Leading CareerForce Partner Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council reached out to her to offer Dislocated Worker Services, available to people who are laid off. Tory learned she was eligible for training to help her advance in her nursing career. In December of 2024, Tory began work as a Registered Nurse (RN), a well-paying position in high demand. Here’s what Tory shared about her Caring Career journey:
“My name is Tory, I’m 47 years old and my dreams of becoming an RN were made possible with a huge amount of support from the Career Force Center. I started my journey of become an RN in 2021 and I graduated in May of 2024 with my Associate Degree in Nursing from Minnesota West. I started my career in December of 2024 as a RN at Sanford in Canby, Minnesota. I work on the medical-surgical floor along with working in the emergency department. Every day is different and exciting. Every time I walk through those doors it gives me the opportunity to provide the best possible care, show compassion, and offer support for my patients. Working in a small critical access hospital has shown me that we are a tight community and we all are family. The best part of being a nurse is getting to know your patients and their families. Being an RN has its challenges, but with the right education and support from my colleagues and peers anything is possible to achieve! I am grateful and lucky to have this opportunity to work alongside the best team in health care!”
