The Follow Your Heart to a Caring Career campaign is about reaching, hiring and retaining people to work in home-, community- and facility- based care. The focus on entry level positions with a potential for career growth
This campaign, which is called the Caring Career campaign for short, has been developed by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS), Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), Minnesota State HealthForce, Local Workforce Development Area staff, industry associations and many others.
The Caring Career campaign needs you to be successful! There are more than 45,000 unfilled positions in Health Care and Social Assistance in Minnesota, according to the latest DEED Job Vacancy Survey. People working in these positions are critical to the quality of life of thousands of Minnesotans with disabilities and elders living throughout the state.

The people we are focused on reaching to serve in these critical home-, community- and facility-based care positions are:
- People who need work now
- Immigrants, refugees and evacuees
- Students – college and high school age 16+ for some positions
- People who retired from another career and are looking to return to work part-time, with a flexible schedule
- Anyone who wants to make a difference in the lives of others
Campaign elements:
- Funding from DHS for paid advertising for June-August 2023 - Round I
- Focus on Google search, Google display, Facebook and Instagram ads, and ethnic media
- Funding from DHS for paid advertising for November-December 2023 - Round II
- Focus on Google search, Google display, Facebook and Instagram ads, and ethnic media - this was a much smaller advertising spend than Round I
- Funding from DHS for paid advertising for March-June 2024 - Round III
- Focus on Facebook and Instagram ads, Greater Minnesota radio (view list of stations ads are running on below) and Metro Transit ads
- Occupational handouts, career wheel flyer and other resources are evergreen and can be used outside time of paid campaigns
- Many resources are available in Amharic, Dari, English, Karen, Oromo, Pashto, Somali, Spanish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese
- Earned media outreach will occur during this same time frame as paid campaigns
- Organic social – please post using #CaringCareerMN so we can all share
- Periodic GovDelivery emails to job seekers and employers throughout Minnesota - these emails will go out on Tuesday
- Communications via your networks, industry association membership communications vehicles and other means are critical!
- DEED is providing articles and other content for industry association communication platforms
