Do you enjoy working with your hands, solving mechanical problems, operating precision tools, and building or maintaining industrial equipment? A career as a Union Millwright may be perfect for you.
Our 5-week pre-apprenticeship training program, offered through a partnership with the Carpenters Training Institute (CTI) and Millwright Local 1348, will provide the skills, experience, and industry exposure needed to prepare for employment with union contractors and entry into a Registered Apprenticeship. The program is part of Minnesota Training Partnership's Drive for Five Industry Sector Training initiative. Participants receive technical training, work readiness support, career navigation, and direct connections to employers seeking skilled workers in the construction and industrial trades.

Skill Training
- Millwright Pre-Apprenticeship Training (October 12 - November 13, 2026)

Minnesota Training Partnership's Union Millwright Training Program prepares adults to enter high-demand careers in industrial construction and maintenance. Millwrights install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and align machinery and equipment used in manufacturing facilities, power plants, refineries, mines, and industrial worksites.
FREE, SHORT-TERM PROGRAM FOR PEOPLE WHO QUALIFY!
This program provides hands-on training aligned with employer needs and prepares participants to apply for employment opportunities and entry into the Millwright Registered Apprenticeship Program. Participants also receive individualized career navigation and job placement assistance throughout training and after completion.

How to Participate
Eligibility
- Be 18 years of age or older and not enrolled in a K-12 school
- Be a resident of Minnesota
- Be authorized to work in the United States
- Be actively seeking employment or career advancement
Meet at Least One Priority Population
Individuals who:
- Are unemployed or underemployed
- Are low-income (at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines)
- Have justice system involvement
- Are experiencing housing instability
- Have a disability
- Are part of communities disproportionately impacted by barriers to employment
Academic Readiness
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Sufficient reading and math skills to succeed in training
- Ability to participate in hands-on industrial and construction training
Complete
- Program application and eligibility screening
- Required assessments and Individual Employment Plan (IEP)
- Verification of Social Security Number and other required eligibility documentation
Selection is based on eligibility, interest in the skilled trades, readiness to complete training, and commitment to entering employment and Registered Apprenticeship.

Outcomes
Participants gain the foundational skills needed to enter the Millwright trade and are supported in applying for employment and Registered Apprenticeship opportunities with Millwright Local 1348 and participating union contractors. The program is designed to lead directly to employment and long-term careers in the construction and industrial sectors.
