Ryan is overcoming the challenges of finding employment as an older worker. He thanks staff at Leading CareerForce Partner Rural Minnesota Concentrated Employment Program (RMCEP) for helping him find hope and prepare for a promising career. Here is Ryan’s story, in his own words.
“Overcoming unemployment later in life was one of the hardest challenges I’ve faced, especially with the fear and uncertainty of starting over in a difficult job market. Thankfully, CareerForce in Wadena was there to guide me through every step. Their staff were incredibly kind, caring, and supportive, treating me with genuine respect and understanding. They not only helped me explore new career options but also secured the funding I needed to return to school and gain valuable new skills. With their encouragement and resources, I’ve found a renewed sense of purpose and confidence in building a successful new career path.
“After becoming unemployed at nearly 50 years old, I found myself facing a future filled with uncertainty. Although I had earned a bachelor’s degree earlier in life, the idea of returning to an educational environment after so many years felt daunting. I truly believed that starting over simply wasn’t an option for me. As it turns out I was wrong.
“I was introduced to CareerForce in Wadena – a turning point in my journey. From the beginning, every person I encountered helped remove the stigma I felt about starting again. They helped me see that I could build upon the knowledge and experience I already had, strengthening my foundation rather than abandoning it.
“Through this support, I was fortunate to be accepted into the Drive for 5 program. There, I gained the skills, confidence and direction I needed to take meaningful next steps in my career. At every stage there was someone available to answer questions, offer guidance, and help me navigate challenges, especially the stresses that naturally come with learning something new after being away from the classroom for so long.
“Thanks to this encouragement and structure, I was able to complete my CDL training in a short amount of time. Today, with the knowledge received I am better prepared to face in an ever-changing job market. What once felt like an ending became an opportunity for growth proving that it’s never too later to invest in yourself expand your skills and open the door to a stronger future.”
