The latest Minnesota employment numbers were scheduled to be released today. Due to the federal government shutdown, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has not gathered or prepared updated employment information to be shared with the states. We are providing the statistics below to help provide an update on the employment situation based on available information.
Job postings on the state labor exchange indicate there are fewer jobs available now versus Septembers of the past few years, or at least fewer jobs posted on Minnesota's labor exchange:
- September 2025: 54,864*
- September 2024: 67,375
- September 2023: 77,099
- September 2022: 119,317
*Note that the September 2025 number includes postings on MinnesotaWorks.net, Minnesota jobs scraped and posted by NLx and jobs posted via the new Post a Job platform. These numbers are from a point in time during the last week of September each year.
Unemployment Insurance initial claims for September show claims remain relatively steady versus last year and up slightly over the two previous years:
- September 2025: 14,382
- September 2024: 14,880
- September 2023: 12,693
- September 2022: 10,815
