Introduction to Automation & Mechatronics
A hands-on, beginner-friendly course designed for individuals exploring careers in advanced manufacturing and industrial technology. Over 40 hours, students will learn foundational skills used in modern automated facilities — including basic programming, introduction to electricity, robotics, safety, and industry terminology.
This course is ideal for adults seeking a new career path or recent high school graduates. No prior experience is required. Students will gain practical, job-ready skills while building confidence in a supportive learning environment. Participants will also explore career pathways in automation, maintenance, robotics, and manufacturing technology.
You will learn fundamentals of programming and industrial controls, an understanding of basic electricity and how systems power automation. Get hands-on experience with robotics and automated equipment and explore high-demand careers in automation and advanced manufacturing. You will learn key workplace safety fundamentals including hazard recognition, worker's rights, employer responsibilities, and how to prevent common injuries.
- 56 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction, including:
- NorthStar Digital Learning Modules, OSHA 10 for General Industry, and Essential Soft Skills for Employment
- This class will be delivered at Minnesota State College-Southeast Red Wing, MN.
- The Intro to Automation & Mechatronics class, testing, OSHA10, and Essential Soft Skills class will be held daytimes Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, June 8 through June 8 - June 30 (12noon-4pm) AND July 1 - 2 (8am - 4:30pm).

To be eligible for grant funding (FREE!), you must:
You must be 18+ years old and not enrolled in high school.
You must live in one of the Southeast MN counties (Wabasha, Goodhue, Winona, Rice, Steele, Dodge, Olmsted, Fillmore, Houston, Freeborn, Mower).
And have any ONE of the following qualifiers:
- Disability
- Homelessness
- Person of Color / Hispanic
- Criminal Record
- Individual without a GED or High School Diploma
- Individual that has been unemployed for 26 weeks or more out of the past 52 weeks.
- Individual at or below the 200% of the Federal Poverty
Guidelines - Limited English or Math proficiency

- 2 Certificates of Completion from MN State College Southeast
